Japanese oak is much finer grained and milder to work than European or American oak and is eminently suitable for fine work in cabinet making and box making.
This timber was much admired and regularly imported in the 1950's and 1960's but has not been available since that time. These pieces have been prepared from very old stock and it would be fair to assume that the wood is about 50 years old.
