White Limba (Korina wood) three piece body blank select grade number 11.
Finished at 42mm so may need a 'cap'.
Terminalia superba from West Africa.
Photo is of actual set
Light weight guitar body wood as popularised by Gibson on the Explorer, flying V and others. A well proven timber for the job.
The downside to working with limba is worm defect.
This results from attacks to the living tree or to the logs and lumber before the wood is kiln dried. We exclude as much of this defect as possible from the body blanks that we prepare and we offer the wood in two grades.
Select grade is free of worm defect or may have infrequent tiny (0.5mm) diameter worm holes that do not affect the colour of the wood around them and are almost impossible to see in the finsihed article.
Standard grade will have light worming. These worm holes may have dark streaks associated with them that make them more obvious. The filled worm holes should be considered an acceptable part of the appearance of the finished instrument.
